Exceptional Academic Opportunities

 

Academic Standing

Students' academic standing is determined each semester as follows:

1. Academic Excellence

A student is considered to be in Academic Excellence if she achieves a semester GPA of 4.50 or higher, based on at least 12 credit hours.

2. Academic Alert

An Academic Alert is an early notification intended to help the student avoid receiving an Academic Warning. An Academic Alert is issued in either of the following cases:

• Her semester GPA is 1.00 or higher but below 2.50.
• Her cumulative GPA is 2.00 or higher but below 2.50.

3. Academic Warning

An Academic Warning is issued when a student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 out of 5.00.

• First Academic Warning: Issued when the student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.00.
• Second Academic Warning: Issued when the student's cumulative GPA remains below 2.00.

4. Academic Dismissal

I.  Bachelor's Degree Programs

A student is academically dismissed from the University in the following cases:

1. She receives three consecutive Academic Warnings due to a cumulative GPA below 2.00 out of 5.00.
2. She is granted a fourth opportunity for one semester if she is deemed capable of raising her cumulative GPA to 2.00 by completing the available courses.
3. The student is permanently dismissed from the University if she is unable to raise her cumulative GPA during the semester granted as a fourth opportunity.
4. She fails to complete her graduation requirements within the standard completion period, which is the program duration plus half of that duration. An exceptional extension may be granted to allow her to complete the graduation requirements, subject to approval by her college.

II.  Diploma Programs

A student is academically dismissed from the University in the following cases:

1. She receives two consecutive Academic Warnings due to a cumulative GPA below 2.00 out of 5.00.
2. She is granted a third opportunity for one semester if she is deemed capable of raising her cumulative GPA to 2.00 by completing the available courses.
3. The student is permanently dismissed from the University if she is unable to raise her cumulative GPA during the semester granted as a third opportunity.
4. She fails to complete her graduation requirements within a maximum period of the program duration plus half of that duration. An exceptional extension may be granted to allow her to complete the graduation requirements, subject to approval by her college.
