Academic guidance represents a major hub in university education, as it provides many facilities to the student, and the academic advising process is the primary support for the student's path during university life.
Tasks
- Preparing new female students for the university stage.
- Helping female students make appropriate decisions related to their academic and professional future.
- Improving the student's achievement level by directing her according to the approved academic plan to obtain the academic degree.
- Overcoming the difficulties that the student may encounter during her studies and providing advice in all areas that may affect her educational path.
- Following up female students during their studies, especially those who are struggling academically, studying the causes of their failure, and working to improve their levels
The Role Of The Student in Academic Advising:
Female students have an essential role in the academic guidance process. They are responsible for monitoring academic progress and seeking advice and guidance from academic advisors. The student prepares for the academic advising process by following the following steps:
1- Before meeting with the academic advisor:
- Knowing the office hours of the academic advisor.
- Schedule an appointment with the academic advisor at the beginning of the semester (preferably at least once a month).
- Preparing the questions and concerns that concern the student to be presented in the academic interview.
- Review the study plan carefully, which explains to the student all the requirements that the department, college, and university need.
- Searching for the correct information and data related to what the student needs before meeting her academic advisor.
2- During the academic advisor interview:
- Clarifying the student's professional and academic goals and discussing them transparently with the academic advisor.
- Set a date for graduation and consult the advisor.
- Work with the academic advisor to develop a study program with an executive study schedule for what the student plans to study for the next two semesters.
- Ask all the questions that concern the student's interest to her academic advisor, as she can help the student when having a clear perception of what is on the student's mind.
3. Follow-up interviews:
- Follow the recommendations of the academic advisor.
- Communicate with the advisor and send an email with any additional questions or inquiries.
- Review graduation requirements and ensure that it is correctly understood.
- Inform the academic advisor about undertaking any academic process (deletion, addition, apology, postponement).
Important Note:
The student bears responsibility for her academic progress. Advice and guidance are important tools that help the student succeed, and the student remains primarily responsible for either achieving success or not.
