The College of Computer and Information Sciences, represented by the Artificial Intelligence Center at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in collaboration with Elm Company, has announced the opening of registration for the first edition of the "Thakathon" hackathon. This hackathon aims to develop innovative solutions using artificial intelligence technologies specializing in natural language processing for the Arabic language. It is open to university students and graduates and will run until Thursday, March 5, 2026. The hackathon aims to encourage innovation in artificial intelligence technologies and their various applications, discover promising talents and integrate them into the innovation and applied research ecosystem, and enhance smart Arabic content by developing solutions that support the Arabic language using advanced technologies. "Thakathon" is based on two main phases: the first is the ideation phase, while the second phase focuses on transforming the ideas into applicable prototypes “MVPs” within diverse tracks including Hajj and Umrah, education, law, tourism, culture, and health. The hackathon is an innovative platform that aims to transform participants' ideas into products that serve PNU and the community. It achieves this through an applied learning environment that includes workshops, mentoring sessions, and technical support from specialized experts, culminating in judging and project presentations. Dr. Shrooq Alsenan, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, explained that "launching 'Thakathon' hackathon represents a qualitative leap for the Artificial Intelligence Center, empowering students and graduates to transform knowledge into impactful technological solutions."
