The English Language Institute at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University concluded the program titled “Artificial Intelligence for Language Learning / Integrating AI Tools into Curricula” on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The program was held in parallel with the third Global AI Summit at the English Language Institute premises. Over five days, the program delivered a series of workshops and virtual sessions addressing the urgent need for teachers and institutions to adapt to emerging AI technologies to enrich teaching methods and increase student engagement by fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. It also introduced teachers and learners to AI tools and how to benefit from them in education and future professions. The program provided practical resources to help teachers apply AI tools in classrooms effectively and ethically, clarifying the intersection between generative AI tools and critical aspects of education, including teaching methods, curriculum design, assessment, and feedback. This supports the development of critical thinking skills regarding the optimal use of AI in education. The program reviewed how generative AI technologies can enhance English language acquisition, focusing on their benefits and practical applications, how to craft prompts that generate desired responses from AI systems and their types, best practices for clear communication, the use of prompts for diverse tasks, and the latest challenges and opportunities in AI for English language teaching. It also presented the latest research on AI use and effective strategies for integrating AI tools into language education, enhancing listening, comprehension, and conversational fluency skills, in addition to improving learners’ reading and writing skills. This comes as part of the English Language Institute’s role in contributing to the objectives of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025 through providing high-quality education and building scientific and educational capacities by adopting the latest global practices in teaching and learning.
