The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in collaboration with Robotawiq Society, concluded the training camp titled “Robotics and Digital Manufacturing Makeathon”, which targeted female and male students as well as individuals interested in robotics technology, the Internet of Things, and digital manufacturing. The camp was held at the Natural and Health Sciences Research Center at the University. The closing ceremony included an accompanying exhibition showcasing the camp’s outputs, represented by nine innovative projects. These included “Nasik”, a smart application designed to facilitate the performance of rituals in the Grand Mosque in Makkah by developing mobility carts used to transport elderly individuals and persons with disabilities. Another project, “Nubi”, presented an innovative incubator designed to enhance the level of care provided to premature infants. “MediPal” was introduced as a robotic device designed to measure all vital signs. The project “Rescuvo” showcased a robot used in rescue operations. The innovative projects also included “Celeris”, which offers a robot specialized in vehicle maintenance through changing damaged tires, and “Cement Robot”, a robot used in construction processes. In addition, “Baraq” was presented as a robot specialized in cleaning the glass of buildings and towers, while “Inspecto” focuses on factory inspection to enhance safety and security levels and reduce operational costs. The project “Blue Bee” introduced robots capable of creating detailed maps of surrounding areas and navigating various environments without relying on map applications or communication networks and internet connectivity. The Director of the CODE Lab at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Dr. Maram Sabri, stated that the design of innovative projects forms a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and enhancing competitiveness across various sectors. She emphasized that companies and institutions can confront global challenges through innovative and sustainable approaches, contributing to improved quality of life and the creation of new job opportunities. She further noted that focusing on innovative projects is essential to strengthening a knowledge-based economy and achieving future leadership. It is worth noting that the “Robotics and Digital Manufacturing Makeathon” extended over a period of four months and included approximately 47 specialized training workshops in fields such as electronics, electrical circuits, programming, modeling, and design thinking. This contributed to equipping participants with advanced skills and expertise in robotics systems and digital manufacturing, while also fostering strong and productive professional networks. The camp aligns with the efforts of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center to support the objectives of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025, which aims to provide a supportive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, deliver nationally competitive outputs, and build a sustainable knowledge-based community.
