The College of Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University held an introductory meeting on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, for the first cohort of female and male students enrolled in the PhD in Applied Biology and Biotechnology program. The meeting took place at the university’s Natural and Health Sciences Research Center. The meeting commenced with an overview of the doctoral program, which represents a partnership with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, aimed at preparing specialized academic, research, and professional cadres in the field, as well as facilitating the exchange of expertise with faculty members. This was followed by an introductory tour of the university’s research centers, the Medical Skills and Simulation Center, and the Central Library, enabling students to benefit from these facilities throughout their academic journey. The program, recently launched by the university, aims to prepare and graduate a new generation of researchers capable of producing high-quality scientific research that serves society, meets global needs, enhances understanding of market demands and biotechnology applications, and contributes to the advancement of the biotechnology sector. This is achieved through the provision of an advanced and stimulating learning environment that adheres to quality standards and academic accreditation requirements. The Dean of the College of Sciences at Princess Nourah University, Dr. Falwah bin Thaqfan, explained that launching the PhD program in Applied Biology and Biotechnology in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 represents a fundamental step toward preparing distinguished national talents capable of leadership in this vital field. The program contributes to strengthening scientific research and meeting national development needs, thereby enhancing the Kingdom’s position regionally and globally. The PhD program also supports the Kingdom’s ambition to become a leader in the biotechnology sector, achieve an advanced level of self-sufficiency, create positive social and economic impact, and support the knowledge economy by transforming research outputs into marketable products. Over the course of four academic years, the program equips students with academic, analytical, and practical skills, preparing them for employment in related professional sectors such as universities, industrial laboratories, biotechnology firms, and hospitals, under the supervision of a distinguished group of specialized faculty members from within and outside the university. The program aligns with the objectives of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025, which seeks to offer future-oriented academic programs, achieve excellence in education and learning, and graduate competitive competencies that contribute to national development.
