College of Humanities and Social Sciences Conducts Workshops Under the “Maher” Initiative to Strengthen Academic Competencies

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University implemented a series of workshops under the “Maher” initiative, with the participation of (200) members. The initiative focuses on the academic and leadership development of faculty members, with the aim of strengthening academic competencies. The workshops included a session titled “An Analytical Study of the Web of Science: Its Components and Methods of Searching and Analysis.” The session covered several themes, including: how to access journals within the Web of Science, basic and advanced search systems, side filtering and its database pattern options, subject and author filtering, formats of information sources, chronological filtering, the bibliographic record contents of search results, and journal classification. The second workshop, titled “Citation Styles in Indexed Scientific Journals,” addressed the concepts of plagiarism and similarity, as well as widely used international referencing styles such as APA, MLA, and Chicago Style. Dr. Alia Al-Hayef, Head of the Department of Libraries and Information at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, explained that the “Maher” initiative is one of the programs launched by the college. It aims to provide training programs and specialized workshops that contribute to improving educational performance and enhancing the quality of academic outcomes. She noted that the Department of Libraries and Information seeks to achieve a distinguished position in the information and professional field at local, regional, and international levels. The delivery of these workshops comes within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ role in contributing to Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025 by strengthening skills, knowledge, and values, and achieving excellence in teaching and learning toward impactful leadership and competitive outcomes, supporting leading academic competencies in the national development movement.
