Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Saudi Amateur Radio Society (SARS), inaugurated yesterday, Monday, November 10, 2025, the “Noura Space Beacon Foundation Ceremony.” The event was attended by His Highness Prince Badr bin Fahd Al-Faisal Al Saud, Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, and Her Excellency the Acting President of the University, Dr. Fawzia bint Suleiman Al-Amro, along with several university leaders, and was held on the university campus. The ceremony included an introductory presentation highlighting the college and its most notable achievements, followed by an address by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Hanan bin Minqash, and a speech by His Highness Prince Badr bin Fahd Al-Faisal Al Saud. The event concluded with the official laying of the foundation stone for the Noura Space Beacon. The launch of the Beacon aims to develop skills in advanced engineering disciplines and space sciences, while providing students with hands-on scientific and technical experience through specialized training courses. These include: operating satellite tracking station equipment, maintaining beacon systems, developing satellite tracking technologies, operating the radio telescope, analyzing radio telescope signal data, and designing and manufacturing fixed and mobile telescopes. The project includes advanced facilities such as a satellite tracking station, a communications station connected to the International Space Station (ISS), a radio telescope for observing frequencies and astronomical phenomena, advanced space weather monitoring systems, an immersive pyramid showcasing augmented and virtual reality technologies, research and development robots, and antennas for UAV and satellite communication applications in non-terrestrial networks. Dr. Hanan bin Minqash emphasized that the launch of the Noura Space Beacon is “a pioneering scientific initiative that supports the advancement of scientific research and engineering innovation. It empowers female students to acquire practical and technical skills in space and communications fields.” She added: “The Beacon represents an advanced educational and research platform that allows students to engage in space observation experiments and cutting-edge engineering applications, enhancing their creativity and innovation skills and reinforcing the college’s role in science, engineering, and space in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.” The establishment of the “Noura Space Beacon” comes as part of the College of Engineering’s role in supporting Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s strategic goals, through promoting scientific research, strengthening the integration between education and practical application, and preparing competitive graduates capable of leading in engineering and scientific innovation fields in alignment with Vision 2030.
