Under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Education, Mr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, the College of Languages at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University is organizing, on Wednesday, 15 May 2024, the scientific conference titled “Translating Saudi Identity Across Other Languages and Cultures,” under the slogan “Our Identity—We Translate It,” at the University’s Conference and Symposium Center. The conference focuses on conveying the Kingdom’s cultural, historical, literary, and intellectual heritage and translating it globally, as well as translating Saudi identity and its role in strengthening a positive image of the Kingdom, promoting impactful international presence, and leading knowledge, civilizational, and cultural influence. The conference seeks to contribute to achieving the first objective of Saudi Vision 2030 (strengthening Islamic values and national identity) by translating Saudi identity across other languages and cultures through Saudi expertise. It also aims to create a competitive environment among university students to introduce their national identity through other languages and cultures and to raise awareness of the importance of languages, translation, and cultural studies in strengthening national identity and communicating it to others. The conference targets researchers and those interested in Saudi identity and translation, students specializing in identity and translation, and sectors concerned with translating Saudi identity, including ministries, authorities, and companies. It includes six scientific sessions, workshops, accompanying exhibitions, and cultural events. The scientific sessions cover topics such as: “Our Identity—We Translate It,” “The Identity of the Saudi Family,” “National Identity,” “Linguistic Communication,” “The Role of Translation and Publishing in Conveying Saudi Identity to the World,” “Translating National Heritage Across the Languages of the World,” and “National Identity in Film Translation.” Workshops highlight “Translating Identity in Saudi Tourism” and “Saudi Identity and Media Translation,” accompanied by exhibitions titled “Identity Research Exhibition” and “Visual Arts Exhibition,” in addition to cultural activities. The organization of the conference “Our Identity—We Translate It” falls within the College of Languages’ contribution to achieving Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s 2025 strategic objectives by enhancing knowledge-based awareness of Saudi identity within educational communities and supporting and encouraging scientific research on translating Saudi identity.
