Under the Patronage of H.E. the Minister of Education, Princess Nourah University Opens the First Sports Tournament for Female Students of GCC Universities and Higher Education Institutions

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University inaugurated yesterday, Saturday, 27 April 2024, at the main field of the Students’ Club, the first sports tournament for female students of universities and higher education institutions in the GCC countries, in the presence of H.E. the University President, Dr. Enas bint Suleiman Al-Issa, the Acting Director of the Education Department at the GCC General Secretariat, Dr. Abrar Al-Sulaim, and a number of deans from participating universities. In the first edition of the tournament hosted by Princess Nourah University under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Education, Mr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, 255 students representing 11 universities from various universities and higher education institutions across GCC countries are participating, competing in four sports: volleyball, futsal (indoor football), tennis, and badminton. The ceremony included a speech by H.E. the University President, Dr. Enas bint Suleiman Al-Issa, and a speech from the GCC General Secretariat delivered by Dr. Abrar Al-Sulaim. The ceremony also featured a visual presentation titled “We Compete to Strengthen It,” and a sports march by the participating universities’ students. The ceremony concluded by honoring the participating universities in the tournament and launching the sports competitions, which were set to begin on Sunday, 28 April 2024, at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s sports fields. On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Donia bint Abdulaziz Al-Faraj, and the Deputy Chairperson of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, Ms. Hanan bint Mohammed Al-Mahmoud, signed a cooperation memorandum between Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University and the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation to collaborate on implementing sports programs and activities between the two parties. It is worth noting that Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s hosting of this GCC sports event is based on its status as the largest women’s university in the world and is consistent with its ongoing efforts to achieve its 2025 Strategic Plan toward enhancing a healthy university environment that supports quality of life in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, and preparing female university students athletically to represent their University at the local, regional, and international levels.
