The College of Science at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in collaboration with the Saudi Society for Applied Sciences, is organizing the conference “Science in the Service of Society and the Environment” on Sunday and Monday, 2–3 February 2025, under the patronage of Her Excellency the President of the University, Dr. Enas bint Sulaiman Al-Issa. The conference will be held at the University’s Conference and Convention Center. In its first edition, the conference serves as a platform for discussing developments and emerging trends in applied sciences and community service. It aims to strengthen collaboration among academics, researchers, and industry experts, contributing to societal impact and reinforcing efforts to promote health, well-being, and environmental sustainability in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative. The conference seeks to provide local and international researchers with opportunities to present and discuss their scientific research, offer solutions and contributions to addressing societal challenges, meet community needs, enhance international collaboration among specialized entities in applied sciences, and improve the commercialization of scientific research outputs. This, in turn, activates the role of universities in advancing applied sciences in alignment with modern technological developments. The conference program includes a series of scientific sessions featuring participation from government and private sector officials, academics, experts, and specialists, in addition to accompanying activities such as panel discussions, specialized workshops, and a scientific poster exhibition related to the conference themes. The program also features exhibition booths for sponsors, universities, and research centers. The Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Falwah bin Thaqfan, explained that the conference will showcase prominent research, scientific applications, and initiatives highlighting the role of science and technology in addressing economic, social, and environmental challenges. This will contribute to generating insights and solutions that promote sustainable development and preserve natural resources for future generations. Meanwhile, the President of the Saudi Society for Applied Sciences, Dr. Latifah Al-Hussainan, highlighted the shared vision between the College of Science and the Society to advance applied sciences across disciplines and fulfill their mission of developing research to reach production and practical and industrial applications, in addition to fostering scientific thinking and empowering researchers in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The conference coincides with Riyadh being crowned “Arab Environment Capital” for a two-year period and aligns with Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025, which focuses on preparing competitive competencies, promoting women’s leadership in national development, and establishing an integrated ecosystem for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
