From 15 to 19 December 2024, and in conjunction with the Kingdom’s hosting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the College of Computer Science and Information at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University launched a series of workshops, aimed at spreading knowledge, raising awareness of internet use and its applications, and strengthening practical concepts, skills, and modern technologies related to digital accessibility. The remote workshops focus on discussing five main topics: “Data Governance in the Digital Age,” “Artificial Intelligence for the Benefit of Humanity,” “Digital Transformation to Enhance Sustainability,” “Digital Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities,” and “Emerging Technologies and Innovation.” The workshops target University affiliates (faculty and administrative staff), students, and members of the community. The workshops seek to enable participants to understand the importance of data governance and how to implement it, raise awareness of laws and policies related to data protection and governance, highlight the importance of AI as a tool for serving humanity, and discuss the role of internet governance in guiding AI uses. They also present the importance of digital transformation, introduce global standards for achieving digital accessibility, and explore emerging technologies and their role in stimulating innovation and addressing future challenges. The Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information, Dr. Manal bint Abdullah Al-Ohaly, stated that holding these workshops reflects the College’s efforts to provide an integrated academic environment that supports knowledge, research, and innovation principles, and aligns with global forums and events of relevance. This aligns with the College’s objectives to develop future skills and enhance competitiveness by preparing nationally qualified female competencies, both knowledge- and professionally, across various technical fields. This comes within the College’s role in contributing to the University’s Strategic Plan 2025 goals by achieving excellence in teaching and learning, strengthening competitive outcomes, and creating a supportive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship—thereby supporting women’s contribution to national development.
