Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University continues its efforts to provide an inclusive university environment that supports the needs of students with disabilities and facilitates their academic journey. In this context, the Student Support Unit for Students with Disabilities, affiliated with the Deanship of Student Affairs at PNU, delivered nearly (300) counseling sessions to students with disabilities during 2024. These sessions covered academic, psychological, social, and technical aspects. The sessions aimed to provide support, respond to inquiries, and guide students on how to address challenges. They also included psychological counseling sessions that involved designing individualized psychological treatment plans tailored to each student’s case, based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The counseling services also encompassed technical support through the digital clinic at the Student Support Unit for Students with Disabilities, through which assistive technology programs and electronic devices were provided. This was implemented according to a structured plan based on assessing each student’s needs according to the type of disability, describing the required support, and then conducting a technical diagnosis. In terms of academic support, the Student Support Unit held individual instructional sessions to enable students with disabilities to study certain courses that may be challenging for them. This service is linked to the “Support Document” issued to each student from the time of enrollment, which includes the various academic and technical accommodations required by the student with a disability—whether in classrooms or during examinations. The Unit also launched the “Priority Card” initiative, which consists of a card granted to students and university affiliates with disabilities, as well as those with chronic illnesses or temporary injuries that limit their ability to benefit from services optimally. The card grants them priority access to services across university facilities. These efforts contribute to the Student Support Unit’s role in achieving the objectives of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025, through delivering high-quality services grounded in the latest practices, research evidence, and international standards, thereby supporting the inclusion of students with disabilities and empowering them to contribute effectively to society.
