King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital Obtains LEED Gold Certification for Sustainable Buildings

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University has obtained the LEED Gold certification for excellence in sustainability from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), after fulfilling all the required criteria for the Gold level. These criteria include location and transportation, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design. The university hospital has achieved tangible efforts to enhance the efficiency of its facilities through the use of sustainable building materials, implementation of energy management systems, improvement of water consumption efficiency, and provision of a healthy indoor environment for patients and staff. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a global rating system for evaluating sustainable buildings and improving their environmental performance, aiming to enhance energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, patient health, and innovation. It is noteworthy that King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital has recorded a series of achievements in sustainability and optimal resource utilization. Previously, it obtained the international quality certification ISO 14001 for environmental management systems, ISO 9001 for quality management systems, and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. This recent achievement reflects the hospital’s commitment to contributing to the goals of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025, by establishing an integrated system of excellence and institutional efficiency through improving spending efficiency, reducing costs, enhancing operational efficiency, and achieving the highest aspirations.
