The Department of Sports Affairs at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University launched the Colleges League competitions for the fifth season of 2024, with the participation of approximately 800 female students representing 19 colleges, at the University’s Female Students Sports Club. The league will continue until November 24, 2024, and aims to promote sports activity and a competitive spirit among students, develop individual and team skills, encourage a healthy lifestyle, discover and develop athletic talents, and prepare students to participate in the University Cup Championship 2025 and other university-level tournaments. The Director of the Department of Sports Affairs at the University, Ms. Ahlam bint Abdullah Al-Omari, stated “This league is considered one of the most prominent sports activities within the Talent Discovery and Champion Development Project, which aligns with the Princess Nourah University Strategic Plan 2025, through empowering women, promoting a healthy community, and supporting innovation and sports excellence at all levels.” The fifth season of the Colleges League includes 16 sports disciplines, categorized into individual sports (athletics, judo, chess, karate, taekwondo, and e-sports), dual sports (tennis, badminton, squash, billiards, and table tennis), and team sports (basketball, volleyball, futsal, softball, and rugby). Students compete under a single-elimination system, where a team or player is eliminated after one loss, as well as a league system based on points accumulated from matches, allowing teams or players with higher points to qualify for subsequent rounds. The enhancement of the university sports ecosystem reflects the Department of Sports Affairs’ commitment to contributing to the University Strategic Plan 2025, achieving sports excellence, raising the technical and skill levels of athletes, and representing University teams in local and international competitions.
