The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in cooperation with the Robotique Society, organized the “Product Design – Design Challenge” course as the first course in its program series, within the Robot and Digital Manufacturing Makeathon Camp, which runs until 31 October 2024. The course focused primarily on the key stages of product design, research, and development to creatively build projects. It included innovative design approaches such as problem-solving, product development and quality improvement, and creative solution generation. The course highlighted product growth stages and design challenges, including manufacturing user-friendly products and creating aesthetically and visually appealing designs, in addition to emphasizing the importance of brainstorming in generating creative ideas, sketching initial concepts, and using reference feedback to improve design. It is worth noting that the Product Design course was the first in the camp’s program series, with the participation of 24 trainees in the design track. Participants were selected through a rigorous screening process, narrowing down from 300 applicants to 40 participants across all tracks, based on specific criteria and high-quality projects, aiming to achieve sustainable innovative growth and prosperous economic diversification. International studies indicate that “design thinking” holds tremendous potential for achieving a more sustainable world by adopting expanded thinking approaches that open new horizons in product design, not only to meet current needs and solve problems creatively, but also to contribute to building a sustainable future for generations to come. The Product Design course is part of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center’s efforts to achieve Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s 2025 strategic objectives by providing a supportive environment for innovation, fostering creativity as a key driver of the knowledge economy, and preparing competitive female talents to achieve local and international success, in alignment with Vision 2030 goals.
