A seminar organized by College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and attended by a group of speech and swallowing specialists.
The College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, represented by the Communication Sciences Department at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, organized a scientific symposium entitled "Swallowing disorders and dealing with its patients". The symposium was held at the Health Sciences Research Center.
The event targeted university students, graduates and health practitioners in hospitals, with the aim of sharing experiences among specialists and therapists in the field, communication development for scientific research purposes and enhancing knowledge about swallowing disorders.
The symposium included a discussion on the problems of patients' adherence to therapeutic recommendations, which was mentored by Dr. Bodour Naqshbandi, a teaching staff of Communication Sciences at PNU. Then Dr. Samantha Shune, a faculty member at University of Oregon in the United States of America, spoke about other aspects of managing swallowing problems. Furthermore, there was an explanation about the mechanism of swallowing evaluation given by Dr. Khaled Al-Ghamdi, a specialist at King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz University Hospital. In addition, Dr. Abrar Al-Duraibi, from King Fahd Medical City, addressed the topic of neuroplasticity in patients with swallowing disorders.
It is noteworthy that the symposium, in its first edition, witnessed the attendance of a group of students, specialists and health practitioners from Saudi hospitals and universities
