Students from the College of Computer and Information Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University achieved second place in the second edition of the “Masrahthon” program, organized by the Theater and Performing Arts Commission under the Ministry of Culture. The program was held from December 25 to 27, 2025, in Riyadh. The students won for their innovation of the “Ufuq” platform, an interactive digital theater experience designed to empower children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to engage in theatrical experiences with confidence and reassurance. The platform relies on augmented reality technology to simulate the theater experience in a way that accommodates their sensory needs. The project was presented by the students: Saja Al-Mousa, Renad Al-Jeraiwi, and Sara Al-Salem. The platform aims to enhance the theater experience for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder by preparing them in advance before attending live performances. It also contributes to strengthening the connection between the Theater Commission, schools, rehabilitation centers, and parents by providing customized virtual preparation experiences that help children become psychologically and sensorially ready for the theatrical experience. The Dean of the College of Computer and Information Sciences, Dr. Manal Al-Ohali, stated that “the college is proud of these achievements, which reflect the excellence of its students and their ability to contribute to community development and create a positive, sustainable impact.” She added that “the college is committed to developing students’ cognitive and technical skills, enabling them to actively participate in such initiatives and to present innovative technological solutions across various fields.” It is worth noting that the “Masrahthon 2” program is a specialized innovation platform aimed at developing and empowering talents and providing creative and technological solutions that serve the theater and performing arts sector. The program also enhances collaboration among practitioners, artists, and entrepreneurs through a competitive environment that brings together artistic creativity, modern technologies, and creative entities, contributing to the development of the creative economy and digital transformation.
