In Its First Edition, Princess Nourah University Concludes the Gulf Universities Women’s Sports Tournament

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University concluded yesterday, Wednesday, 1 May 2024, the first sports tournament for female students of universities and higher education institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The closing ceremony included the awarding of trophies to universities that secured top positions in the four sports competitions featured in the tournament: tennis, badminton, futsal, and volleyball. In the tennis championship, Doha University for Science and Technology won first place, followed by Qatar University in second place, while King Saud University secured third place. In the badminton competition, King Abdulaziz University claimed first place, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University came in second, and Doha University for Science and Technology achieved third place. In the futsal championship, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University secured first place, Doha University for Science and Technology came in second, and the University of Technology and Applied Sciences placed third. As for the volleyball competition, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University won first place, followed by Doha University for Science and Technology in second place, while Qatar University achieved third place. Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University hosted the first edition of the tournament under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Mr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, at the Students’ Club Stadium on campus. The tournament was held from 26 April to 1 May 2024 and is considered the largest Gulf sporting event of its kind for female university students. It aimed to enhance sports awareness among female university students and strengthen fraternal ties among students of universities and higher education institutions across the Gulf. It is worth noting that this edition marks the starting point for future sports tournaments, as the event is scheduled to be held biennially, contributing to the achievement of GCC sports excellence goals, inspiring Gulf youth through sports, and fostering a new generation of athletes capable of representing the Gulf in international sporting events.
