Princess Nourah University Participates in the Saudi Delegation at the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University participated in the work of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation during the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), held this March in New York, under Saudi Arabia’s chairmanship for this session. As the largest women’s university in the world, the university emphasized its commitment to enhancing women’s presence across various fields, supporting research, programs, initiatives, and projects that empower women, and contributing to the development of women’s empowerment programs in alignment with national strategies and global trends. The university contributed to several sessions and dialogues that reviewed the pivotal developments concerning Saudi women across different sectors, highlighting the unprecedented support and investment in women’s potential to build a sustainable future. In the high-level opening session of CSW69, Her Excellency Dr. Enas Al-Eisa, President of Princess Nourah University, delivered a presentation titled “How The Saudi Vision 2030 Transformed the Lives of Saudi WOMEN,” focusing on the unprecedented developments experienced by Saudi women under Vision 2030, and the central role of education in economic empowerment and building a more inclusive, sustainable future. In the area of women and technology, Dr. Latifa Al-Faryan, Secretary of the University Council, presented during the session “Women and Technology: Inspiring Stories in the GCC Countries,” highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance women’s participation in the technology and AI sector, and stressing the importance of national initiatives that support women in this field and strengthen their role in building a sustainable digital economy. Dr. Maali Al-Abdulhafiz, Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research and Libraries, delivered a joint statement on behalf of the “Friends of Aging and Sustainable Development Group” during the session “Care Economy: Evaluating Paid and Unpaid Care Work,” emphasizing the importance of care policies, their societal impact, and the necessity of evidence-based strategies to ensure the sustainability of social services and fairness in unpaid work. Dr. Asil Al-Ammar, Director of the Sara Alsudairy Center for Women’s Studies, participated in a discussion session and presented a research paper titled “From Vision to Reality: A Progress Journey Built on Data,” illustrating the center’s role in supporting research-based policies and documenting the achievements of Saudi women. Dr. Abeer Al-Harbi, Chairperson of the Scientific Committee at the National Observatory for Women, reviewed efforts to develop indicators measuring women’s participation and impact on national development, aiming to close gender gaps in health, education, economy, and community engagement. Saudi Arabia’s chairmanship of this session coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, emphasizing the Kingdom’s leadership in supporting women’s issues locally and internationally. The Commission on the Status of Women is one of the main bodies under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), responsible for promoting gender equality and empowering women globally since its establishment in 1946, formulating recommendations and policies to support women’s rights worldwide.
