Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in cooperation with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, is launching a PhD program in “Applied Biology and Biotechnology,” aiming to strengthen scientific research, localize knowledge in the Kingdom, meet the demand for qualified Saudi competencies in the local biotechnology sector, and contribute to achieving the targets of Saudi Vision 2030. The collaboration between the University and the Hospital enables program participants to combine theoretical and applied sciences, benefit from research laboratories and information resources, connect with biotechnology professionals at the “Specialized,” and enhance the production of research work that can be translated into products. The program contributes to strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a leader in the biotechnology sector, achieving an advanced level of self-sufficiency, creating positive social and economic impact, and supporting the knowledge economy by converting research into marketable products. This innovative academic program aligns with the aspirations of the National Biotechnology Strategy, launched at the beginning of this year by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister—may God protect him. The strategy represents a comprehensive roadmap for the Kingdom to become a global biotechnology hub by 2040, contributing to the provision of specialized professional cadres and capacity development to meet local sector requirements. It is worth noting that the PhD program in “Applied Biology and Biotechnology” is the outcome of a recently signed agreement between King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre and Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University to cooperate in establishing and developing joint postgraduate programs, conducting scientific studies and research, and training postgraduate female students.
