Academic Guidance Unit:
The Academic Guidance is the primary support for students by preparing students and providing advisory services to assist them in choosing the most suitable academic specialization and facilitating their academic journey from the moment they enroll at the university until graduation. It aims to provide academic and psychological support to students and to equip them with the necessary guidance that helps them adapt to the university system, understand its regulations, and overcome any challenges or difficulties they may encounter during their academic path.
Academic advising is a collaborative process between advisors and students, designed to support students' academic success. This cooperation provides guidance, resources, and encouragement, ultimately minimizing academic setbacks and facilitating timely graduation.
Academic Advising Roles and Responsibilities
- Preparing newly admitted students for the transition to university life.
- Assisting students in making informed decisions regarding their academic and career paths.
- Enhancing students' academic performance by guiding them in accordance with the approved academic plan to obtain their degree.
- Overcoming and alleviating any difficulties that students may encounter during their studies and providing advice in all areas that may affect their academic progress.
- Monitoring students throughout their academic journey, particularly those facing academic challenges, identifying the reasons of underperformance, and working toward improving their academic standing.
Academic Peer Advisors
Academic Peer Advisors are current students who support and guide fellow students, particularly new and transfer students, in navigating the academic aspects of college life. They offer peer-to-peer support, drawing from their own experiences to help others understand university policies, registration processes, course-related concerns, essential leave policies, class scheduling, and regulations governing deferment or withdrawal. They also support academic advisors by carrying out certain advising tasks, such as contacting students and following up with them in cases where the advisor is unavailable.
Student Responsibilities
- The student is responsible for communicating and meeting with her academic advisor at the beginning of each semester, as well as prior to the early registration and add/drop periods. This helps the student to receive guidance in preparing her schedule and choosing appropriate courses in line with the academic plan.
- The student must review and become familiar with the university regulations, academic curriculum, and all requirements of her academic or professional program.
- In case of any changes in her academic status—such as course failure, withdrawal, deferment, or a change of major—the student should consult her academic advisor and develop an alternative academic plan to ensure the completion of all graduation requirements.
- The student must ensure that she is assigned to an academic advisor in the academic system. If this is not the case, she should consult the Academic Advising Coordinator.
- Adhering to the academic plan and registering for courses according to the prescribed sequence is the most reliable way to ensure that all program requirements are completed within the designated timeframe.
