The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University held a dialogue session on the “Future of the Saudi Cinema Industry,” in conjunction with the Film Commission’s efforts to support cultural momentum through producing competitive Saudi films and emphasizing the role of cinema in preserving societies’ cultural heritage. The session, organized by Nourah Cultural Café at the College, brought together a number of media critics, and practitioners in acting, directing, screenwriting, and film production. It aimed to shed light on Saudi cinema, between reality and expectations, and its role in supporting cultural, social, and economic aspects. The dialogue focused on several themes, including highlighting the importance of cinema culturally and economically through employing cinematic elements such as costumes, imagery, sound, colors, lighting, editing, language, and dialects, contributing to preserving culture and the arts. It also addressed employment opportunities offered by the sector in areas such as screenwriting, production, cinematography, and directing. It is noteworthy that Saudi cinema is witnessing artistic and creative development in film production, supported by the establishment of multiple enabling entities, including the Film Commission, which aims to build and develop the Saudi creative film sector and strengthen its capacity for impact. Cinema is considered remember one of the most influential art forms and a core part of the cultural landscape. This comes as part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ efforts to contribute to Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s Strategic Plan 2025 in leading knowledge and societal impact through activating high-quality partnerships and providing a university environment focused on developing skills and knowledge.
