Academic advisor tasks:

The academic advisor is a faculty member in the program, appointed by the academic advising coordinator of the department to undertake academic guidance tasks previously specified by the university for a group of students, following their academic progress from entry into the college until graduation.
 The most important tasks include:
1. Review the student’s academic record, including completed courses and the academic plan, to ensure progress according to the study plan and timely graduation.
2. Building and maintaining a good relationship with the student and all other parties involved in the advising process.
3. Encouraging students to use the university’s website to review guides, regulations, rules and guidance forms, and to follow news, activities, and announcements.
4. Guiding students to obtain academic services based on the university calendar (registration, add/drop course, withdrawal, postponement, assignment, transfer, course equivalency). 
5. Answering students’ inquiries within the scope of the advising process.
6. Identifying academic and non-academic problems affecting students and reporting them to the Academic Advising Coordinator.
7. Helping students understand themselves, recognize problems that affecting academic achievement, and find solutions.
8. Assisting students in participating in activities, meetings, and training programs.
9. Monitoring students’ academic progress to ensure fulfillment of graduation requirements on time.
10. Supporting students in the comprehensive development of all aspects of their personality.
11. Helping students plan for their academic and professional future.
12. Determining academic advising hours and informing students accordingly.
 

Academic Advising Coordinator tasks:

1. Prepare the academic advising lists.
2. Distribute new students to academic advisors.
3. Provide the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and the Head of the Academic Advising Unit with the lists of advisors and their assigned students.
4. Post the names of students on the doors of the advisors' offices.
5. Ensure that all students are linked to their advisors in the system.
6. Allocate suitable locations for advising (Advising Platform) within each department and provide brochures about academic advising and any other department information that needs to be communicated to students.
7. Announce the location and schedule of advising through the department and college noticeboards.
8. Select a group of top-performing students from the department to act as "Advising Friends" and train them on their responsibilities.
9. Activate the role of "Advising Friends" and ensure their contributions are recorded in their skills log.
10. Provide the academic advisor with the following advising tools through the Academic Advising Kit:
  •  Study plan.
  •  Course equivalency information (obtained from the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs).
  •  Academic procedures calendar.
  •  Course schedules and reference numbers for each section (obtained from the University Admission and Registration website).
11. Monitor the academic advising process in the department and ensure it is conducted properly, reporting any issues to the department head if necessary.
12. Record the academic issues faced by students in the department
13. Organize workshops for new advisors in the department to train them on academic advising tasks and tools.
14. Prepare for the next semester by requesting lists of graduates, struggling students, and faculty members.
15. Perform any other tasks assigned within the field of specialization. ​​
