Professor Dr. Mai bint Nasser bin Jumaa from the Department of Biology at the College of Science is participating in the Second International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management: Circular Economy and Resource Recovery, held from 14 to 16 September 2026, in conjunction with Climate Change Week. Her participation features a scientific workshop entitled:
“Recycling Spent Black Tea as a Novel Heterogeneous Acidic Catalyst for Efficient Biodiesel Production from Waste Cooking Oil: Optimization, Kinetics, and Thermodynamic Insights.”
Professor Dr. Mai bint Nasser bin Jumaa’s participation highlights the role of scientific research in developing sustainable solutions for waste management and transforming waste materials into valuable resources. The research presented in the workshop explores an innovative approach to repurposing spent black tea as a catalyst for biodiesel production from used cooking oil, opening new avenues in recycling, waste reduction, and the advancement of circular economy applications.
This participation further reflects the College of Science’s contributions to global efforts toward environmental sustainability and its commitment to harnessing scientific knowledge to develop environmentally friendly technologies that help mitigate pollution, maximize the utilization of organic waste, and support the objectives of sustainable development.
The Second International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management: Circular Economy and Resource Recovery serves as a scientific platform that brings together researchers, specialists, policymakers, and representatives from various sectors to discuss the latest solutions and technologies in sustainable waste management. This year’s conference focuses on promoting the transition from traditional waste management practices toward circular economy models aimed at reducing waste, recovering resources, and enhancing resource-use efficiency.
Professor Dr. Mai bint Nasser bin Jumaa’s participation aims to facilitate the exchange of scientific expertise with specialists in sustainability and environmental fields, present research findings on converting waste into value-added products, and strengthen opportunities for research collaboration and scientific partnerships that contribute to developing innovative solutions to contemporary environmental challenges.
The participation also provides an opportunity to gain insights into the latest global trends in sustainable waste management, explore successful experiences in the circular economy, expand professional and research networks with researchers and institutions working in sustainability, and strengthen the university’s presence at international scientific forums while highlighting its role in advancing environmental sustainability and innovation.
