Students from the College of Science at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University have achieved first place in the Creative Sparks Challenge 2026, held as part of the Ninth International Conference on Women in Data Science, organized by Prince Sultan University. The students won with their project, “Hydro Map,” which focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence technologies and geospatial data to help predict the risks of flash floods caused by heavy rainfall at the street level and suggest safer routes. The project aims to enhance public safety and support more effective decision-making during rainy conditions. The project was developed by Rama Kharfan, Raghad Al-Jaashani, and Shahad Al-Jaashani, students from the Department of Biology, as part of their participation in the “Artificial Intelligence for Smart Systems” track of the competition. The project reflects the students’ ability to integrate scientific knowledge with emerging technologies and apply them to develop innovative solutions with societal and environmental impact. It also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to sustainable cities and communities, disaster risk reduction, and leveraging innovation and technology to serve society, in alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. This achievement highlights the College of Science’s role in empowering students to transform academic knowledge into innovative projects that address real-world challenges and create sustainable impact, while strengthening their ability to compete in scientific and technological forums. The achievement also reflects the College of Science’s continued commitment to advancing the objectives of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s strategic plan by developing competitive talents, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and supporting the development of technology-driven solutions with societal impact in the fields of innovation, artificial intelligence, and data science.
