Research findings involving a student from the College of Science at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University have received scientific coverage from pv magazine Global, one of the world’s leading platforms specializing in solar energy and renewable energy news and technologies. The coverage highlights the significance of the project’s research outcomes and its potential to contribute to the development of more efficient and stable solar cells. The research was conducted by a team that included Kadi Al-Shibl, a master’s student in the Energy Science and Innovation Program, under the supervision of Dr. Thamraa Al-Shahrani, a faculty member at the College of Science. The project forms part of a series of research initiatives aimed at advancing research and innovation in sustainable energy technologies. The coverage appeared in an article discussing new research findings in the field of perovskite solar cells. In the study, a research team from Saudi Arabia and Greece developed an innovative strategy based on seed crystals to facilitate the formation of the pure phase of perovskite materials, without the need for conventional chemical stabilizers. Solar cells developed using this strategy achieved a power conversion efficiency of 23.51%, compared with 15.5% for the reference cells. They also retained approximately 99% of their initial performance after 3,000 hours of continuous operation under outdoor conditions and simulated sunlight, without encapsulation. This achievement reflects the College of Science’s role at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in supporting high-quality research in renewable energy and solar cell technologies, while highlighting the contributions of the University’s postgraduate students and researchers to research projects with international reach.
