With the participation of more than 600 students, the AI Center at the College of Computer and Information Sciences concludes "Thakathon" hackathon by announcing the winners

The College of Computer and Information Sciences, represented by the Artificial Intelligence Center at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in cooperation with Elm Company, concluded the "Thakathon" hackathon on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, under the slogan "We Innovate in Our Language." The event saw the participation of approximately 640 female students and graduates from the university, and was attended by Her Excellency the Acting President of the University, Dr. Fawzia bint Sulaiman Al-Amro, along with a number of university leaders and specialists, at the university's Conference and Seminar Center. This inaugural hackathon coincided with the designation of 2026 as the "Year of Artificial Intelligence," aiming to develop smart solutions in language processing and to support and raise the university's innovation index. An accompanying exhibition showcased posters of projects shortlisted for the prototype development stage, highlighting innovative ideas, in addition to a video presentation documenting the hackathon's stages and key milestones. The closing ceremony saw the announcement of the winning teams in five main hackathon tracks, out of 50 participating projects. In the Health track, "AmanPlay" team took first place, followed by "Baseera" team in second, and "Al-Sanam" team in third, for their models that contribute to enhancing health awareness and improving the user experience. In the Education track, "Sunaa Al-Ta'allum Al-Thaki" team won first place, "Rakiza" team came in second, and "Diraya" team secured third place, with solutions that contribute to developing the educational experience. In the Law track, "Adl" team won first place, "Baseera" team came in second, and "Hisn" team took third place, by improving access to information through solutions that utilize Arabic language processing technologies. In the Hajj and Umrah track, "Insight" team achieved first place, "Yusr" team came in second, and "Athar" team took third place, by developing models aimed at improving the experience of pilgrims through smart guidance tools. In a related context, the "Rawat" team secured first place in the Tourism and Culture track, followed by the "Waj" team in second place, and the "Cultura" team in third, all for presenting prototypes that enrich cultural content and enhance the visitor experience. Dr. Manal Al-Ohali, Dean of the College of Computer and Information Sciences at the university, explained that "the hackathon highlighted the presentation of creative solutions in numerous fields, ranging from technology and software to sustainable entrepreneurship, making it a vital platform for connecting innovators with the job market, thereby enhancing skills and contributing innovative solutions in the field of artificial intelligence." Dr. Shurooq Al-Sinan, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, noted that "the focus on innovation in Arabic at the 'Thakathon Hackathon' represents a practical model for empowering human resources and building national capabilities, thereby strengthening the presence of the Arabic language in modern technologies and preparing a generation capable of competing and creating a lasting impact in the digital economy."
