About Pharmacy Training
Pharmacy training is an essential component of the academic programs at the College of Pharmacy. It aims to provide students with the professional and clinical knowledge, skills, and experience required for pharmacy practice through training across various practice settings and sectors.
Pharmacy training at the College includes training within the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program and the Master of Advanced Clinical Pharmacy (MACP) Program.
Pharmacy Training for the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program
Pharmacy training in the Doctor of Pharmacy Program is divided into two stages: Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE).
- Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE)
The IPPE stage consists of three training courses offered across Levels 8, 9, and 10 of the program and includes training in community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and clinical pharmacy practice.
- Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) – Internship Year
The Internship Year represents Levels 11 and 12 of the program and consists of nine Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations across various pharmacy practice areas and settings.
Internship Year Objectives
- Train students to practice professionally and adhere to professional ethics
- Introduce students to standards of pharmaceutical care and pharmacy practice
- Develop interns clinical skills necessary for effective pharmacy practice
- Enhance collaboration with the healthcare team in developing comprehensive therapeutic plans to ensure the quality and safety of patient care
- Develop professional and interpersonal skills that enhance students' ability to communicate effectively with patients and the healthcare team
- Introduce internship students to various fields of pharmacy practice and different career pathways
- Equip students with basic research skills
Internship Year Rotations
The Internship Year consists of nine Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience rotations (CPP 590–CPP 598) distributed across Levels 11 and 12.

Pharmacy Training for the Master of Advanced Clinical Pharmacy (MACP) Program
The Master of Advanced Clinical Pharmacy (MACP) Program includes 27 credit hours of field training, distributed across the third and fourth semesters. The training covers various areas of clinical pharmacy practice through required and elective training courses.

Training Sites
Students undertake their training at a number of approved training sites across various pharmacy practice sectors, including hospitals and healthcare institutions, primary healthcare centers, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers, and other approved training sites.
