Training and Internship Unit
The training and internship unit is responsible for organizing all courses that involve training, such as Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy practice Experience (APPE). IPPE focuses on training in hospital wards, outpatient, inpatient, and community pharmacies, while APPE involves diverse rotations, such as health clinics, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, Saudi Food and Drug authority and the Ministry of health.
Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience courses (IPPE)
1) Pharmacy practice experience (1): Community and Wellness (Hospital wards)
2) Pharmacy practice experience (2): Community Service and Medication Therapy Management (Outpatient clinics and community pharmacies)
3) Pharmacy practice experience (3): Institutional (Inpatient pharmacy)
Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience courses (APPE) (Internship year)
The internship year is the last year of the PharmD program (Level 11 and 12), and it consists of 9 rotations which are 5 weeks in duration.
Objectives of the Internship Year
1) Training students to work professionally and learn work ethics.
2) Introduce students to the standards of pharmaceutical care and practice.
3) Developing students' clinical skills.
4) Training to cooperate with the medical team in designing an integrated treatment plan to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety for the patient.
5) Developing the student's professional and personal skills that support her competence in communicating with patients and the team.
6) Introducing the student to all areas of pharmaceutical work.
7) Gain the basic research skills.
Unit's Tasks
1) Ensuring the availability of suitable seats in hospitals, companies, and community pharmacies.
2) Handling administrative tasks, such as organizing interns' training schedule and receiving evaluation forms from designated rotation supervisors.
3) Supervising interns' evaluation and grading.
4) Establishing unified evaluation standards, forms, and tools.
5) Following up with interns' performance and training sites by conducting periodic site visits to improve training quality.
6) Perform scientific programs that contribute to interns' professional growth and ensuring that the interns acquire essential skills for practice and research throughout their internship year.
7) Receiving and resolving any problem or issue that an intern might face and directing it to the designated committee if it is necessary.
