17 Aug 2026

Amid rapid digital transformation, the Artificial Intelligence Center at the College of Computer and Information Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University has made significant strides over the past academic year, benefiting more than 2,600 students, faculty, staff, and researchers. Through its research, training, and innovation initiatives, the Center has contributed to advancing digital transformation and developing national capabilities in artificial intelligence. The Center’s research and knowledge outputs were particularly prominent during a year designated as the “Year of Artificial Intelligence.” It completed 10 research projects and published two periodicals featuring nearly 11 technical articles. The first, AI for All, explored AI applications that support and empower people with disabilities, while the second, Ethical Dimensions of AI Applications, examined responsible approaches to the use of AI technologies. Together, these publications contributed to enriching digital and technical content in the field of artificial intelligence. Dr. Shorouq Al-Sinan, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, noted that the Center’s achievements reflect the University’s commitment to leveraging AI technologies to develop innovative solutions that create impact across education, healthcare, language, digital inclusion, and quality of life. She also highlighted the Center’s continued efforts to advance technological innovation, strengthen strategic partnerships, and expand access to AI applications across various fields. The Center’s projects have addressed a range of vital sectors. In healthcare, it developed models for the early prediction of epileptic seizures in collaboration with King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital. In government services, it implemented the “Muhakkim” project, which provides early legal alerts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. In digital inclusion, it launched the “RafdSign” project, which converts speech into sign language as part of an initiative by the Digital Government Authority. The Center also hosted and participated in a number of prominent events, including the “Thakathon 2026” hackathon, organized in collaboration with Elm Company, and the “Women in Data Science 2026” Forum. It also participated in the World Defense Show and the Global Health Exhibition and organized a series of “Arabic Intelligence” sessions in collaboration with King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language. As part of its capacity-building efforts, the Center delivered 22 workshops and training programs covering generative AI, design thinking, prototyping, AI ethics, and AI applications in arts and design. It also launched the “AI HUB” initiative to expand technical knowledge, develop practical skills, foster innovation, and turn ideas into impactful projects. The Center operates across six specialized tracks: Generative AI and Natural Language Processing; Computer Vision; Gamification and the Metaverse; Health and Bioinformatics; Information Security; and the Internet of Things. These tracks draw on a range of advanced technologies, including machine learning and deep learning, large language models, natural language processing, computer vision, reinforcement learning, predictive modeling, health and biomedical data analytics, and AI-enhanced cybersecurity. These achievements highlight the Center’s role in supporting the objectives of the University’s Strategic Plan, particularly in advancing research and innovation and developing national capabilities in advanced technologies. They also support digital transformation, promote the use of Arabic in the technology landscape, and contribute to the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in building a sustainable knowledge-based economy.
