College of Computer and Information Sciences Launches “Smart Building and Internet of Things” Initiative to Promote Technological Innovation The College of Computer and Information Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University has launched the “Smart Building and Internet of Things” initiative to support institutional innovation in projects. The initiative showcases students’ graduation projects in the fields of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the college’s campus. The initiative aims to integrate AI and emerging technologies to support applied learning, foster innovation and scientific research, and develop projects and prototypes using smart technologies. This contributes to enhancing technical competencies, improving students’ skills, and keeping pace with the latest scientific and technological advancements. Dr. Manal Al-Ohali, Dean of the College of Computer and Information Sciences, explained that these projects help strengthen innovation and develop students’ skills by providing practical technological solutions that support the advancement of a smart educational environment, enhance academic activities in service of the community, and keep up with the rapid developments in computer science and technology. The initiative included the launch of two innovative projects developed by students from the Department of Information Technology. The first project, titled “Maseer”, is an intelligent indoor navigation system designed to improve user experience and facilitate navigation within the college building. It enhances real-time location accuracy and provides clear route guidance through an easy-to-use interface available in both Arabic and English. The second project, “iPresent,” is an intelligent automated attendance registration and management system designed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of tracking student attendance in classrooms. It enables faculty members and students to access records instantly through a contactless solution tailored for smart classroom environments. The “Smart Building and Internet of Things” initiative is part of the College of Computer and Information Sciences’ efforts to support the strategic goals of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in promoting digital transformation and innovation. It does so by providing a practical environment for smart technologies that helps enhance technical skills and improve the quality of academic outcomes.
