The College of Languages, represented by the French Language Program in the Department of Translation, took part in the 2025 edition of the renowned Francophone literary award “Goncourt – Le Choix du Moyen-Orient”, aimed at university students across the region. The event was held on 11 Shawwal 1446 AH, corresponding to April 9, 2025.
The college was represented by a distinguished group of students who served as members of the student jury, alongside participants from French departments in other Middle Eastern universities. These juries are tasked with reading a selection of contemporary French novels, engaging in critical and literary discussions, and ultimately selecting the winning title for the “Goncourt – Middle East Choice”. The student jury from the university included: Jouri Abdullah Al-Qahtani (President of the Student Jury), Shouq Faisal Al-Ghamissi, Aryaf Abdulrahman Al-Suwailem, Ghaidaa Saeed Al-Qarni, Reem Khalid Al-Omari, and Dalal Muteb Al-Hamdan, all representing the Translation/French program. The students’ participation was supervised by Dr. Malak Nabil Halabi, as part of the college and department’s ongoing efforts to enhance students’ linguistic and critical thinking skills, and to encourage meaningful engagement with contemporary literary texts.
This initiative reflects the College of Languages’ commitment to supporting cultural and academic programs that empower students to gain visibility in regional and international forums, while expanding their exposure to global literature and honing their critical and and linguistic abilities.
