Bachelor in Translation / French Language

The French language program was established with the College of Languages upon the approval of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prime Minister, and Chairman of Higher Education Council via directive No. 8626 dated 27/9/1428 AH. A decree was issued by the Higher Education Council in this regard, based on the university’s project to establish the college. The French Language Program at the Department of Translation focuses on providing students with French linguistic skills, and translation skills from French into Arabic and vice versa. At the beginning of the program, students are introduced to the principles of the French language to build a knowledge base that enables them to acquire oral and written communication skills. The specialized courses in the later four levels focus on gradually building knowledge and skills, such as reading, writing and grammar skills. In addition, students become familiar with language culture and literature. Later on, students study translation strategies to acquire the necessary skills in this field. They also learn about translation tools and techniques and text analysis. Students are also trained to translate various types of texts, through studying translation courses that covers religious, commercial, tourism, audiovisual, and computational fields with its techniques and programs, which are required by the labor market. In this program, students learn oral translation skills, through studying consecutive and simultaneous translation courses in specialized translation laboratories. They will be trained at entities in the labor market to practice what they have learned in their specialty. The graduation project will be a requirement for students within a group work, in which they will develop essential skills (details will be displayed in the analysis of the learning outcomes for each level). The French language program includes an elite group of specialists in language sciences and its teaching, as well as in translation and interpretation. The faculty members teach students and supervise the graduation project along with training students of the program. The French language program, represented by Princess Nourah bint Abdul Rahman University, has joined the Francophone University Agency in 2018 and obtained full, unconditional accreditation during the current academic year 1441-1442/2010-2021 from the National Center for Evaluation and Accreditation, and it is working on obtaining international accreditation.
