The establishment of the Deanship of Scientific Research coincided with the establishment of the first university for girls following the issuance of the Royal Decree No. 3139 / MB in 18/4 / 1427H, and in 25/3 / 1428H. The Royal Decree No. 37 / has been issued to appoint the first director of the university based on the supreme order. The university has started to establish associate deanships and organize the university administration to comply with the system of the Higher Education Council and the universities and its regulations. That was the actual beginning of the Deanship of Scientific Research at Princess Noura Bint Abdul Rahman University.

Since its establishment, the Deanship has been developing sections and departments that contribute to meeting the requirements of scientific research. Efforts are still being made to cope with the great challenges required by the advancement of scientific research at​ the University.​
