Prof. Dr. Lilia El Amraoui is a distinguished academic leader and internationally recognized researcher in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy. She is a Senior Member of IEEE, reflecting her significant professional achievements and contributions to the advancement of engineering and technology worldwide. She is currently serving as a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering – Renewable Energy at the College of Engineering, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU), Saudi Arabia, where she also held the position of Director of the Research Center of the College of Engineering.
Her academic journey reflects excellence and international distinction. She obtained her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Lille University, France, graduating with “Very Honorable with Congratulations.” She earned her University Habilitation in Electrical Engineering from the National Engineering School of Tunis (ENIT) and qualified for Associate Professor functions in France (63rd section). Her foundational training includes the National Engineering Diploma in Electrical engineering and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Systems Analysis and Digital Processing from ENIT.
With more than two decades of experience in higher education, Prof. Dr. El Amraoui has held several prestigious academic and executive leadership positions. She served two consecutive terms, six years, as Dean of the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique de Tunisie (EPT), and previously as elected Dean of the National Engineering School of Carthage (ENICarthage), where she led major institutional reforms and strategic development initiatives. Notably, she spearheaded the transformation of ESTI into ENICarthage and led the ABET accreditation project for EPT’s engineering curriculum, successfully obtaining accreditation in 2023.
Her leadership extends to research governance and international cooperation. She was the Interim Head of the LIM Research Laboratory (Mathematical Engineering Laboratory), EPT, and Leader of the “Renewable Energy and Smart Cities” research team within the Smart Electricity & ICT Laboratory, ENICarthage. She coordinated the Erasmus+ Capacity Building project “Wind Engineering Skills in Egypt and Tunisia (WESET)” and several Erasmus+ mobility programs with European partner universities. She has also signed and developed multiple international double-degree agreements with leading institutions in France, Canada, and Europe.
Dr. El Amraoui’s scholarly contributions are substantial and impactful. She has authored 74 scientific publications, presented 107 conference communications, contributed four book chapters, and supervised 22 PhD theses and 42 Master’s dissertations. She has served on more than 37 PhD defense juries and 65 Master’s juries and acts as a reviewer for international journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions. Her research expertise covers Renewable Energy Systems, Wind Energy Conversion, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, Multiphysics Modeling, Finite Element Analysis, and Smart Energy Systems.
Her engagement with the socio-economic environment is equally remarkable. She has established industrial partnerships with major national and international companies, created certification centers (Microsoft, IBM, LabVIEW, TOEIC, DELF), and founded the first public-private incubator at EPT. She is also co-founder of the IEEE CISTEM International Conference and founder of several academic and professional associations, including Women in Engineering (IEEE Student Branch) at ENICarthage.
At PNU, in addition to her professorial duties, she contributes actively to quality assurance, accreditation, faculty development, examination committees, and sponsored student advising. Her career reflects a rare combination of academic excellence, visionary leadership, international collaboration, and strong societal engagement.
Through her dedication to engineering education, renewable energy research, institutional development, and women’s empowerment in STEM, Dr. Lilia El Amraoui continues to play a transformative role in advancing higher education and scientific innovation at both national and international levels.
