About the Unit

A unit of the University Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, which specializes in the following:

1) Review the results of applicants for vacancies for teaching assistant, lecturer and language teacher.

2) Promotion from teaching assistant to lecturer.

3) Change and correct specialization.

The Establishment of the Unit:

The Unit for The Affairs of teaching assistants, Lecturers and Language Teachers was established in 1432 ah of the Dean of Faculty Affairs, and was transferred to the University Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research by circulating No. 1208 on 8 January 1435 H.

Unit Tasks:

1) Follow-up and review the results of the applicants for vacancies of teaching assistant, lecturer and language teacher, promotion of the teacher to lecturer, change of specialization after receipt of colleges and accreditation from the department and college, and prepared to be presented to the Standing Committee for The Affairs of Teaching Assistants, Lecturers and Language Teachers.

2) Submit a semi-annual report on the work of the unit.

3) Provide colleges periodically with new decisions and forms.

Standing Committee for Teaching Assistants and Lectures:

Overview

Standing Committee for The Affairs of Teaching Assistants, Lecturers and Language Teachers.

On the basis of point 3 of the list regulating the affairs of Saudi faculty members in universities, "at each university a permanent committee for the affairs of teaching assistants, lecturers, language teachers and assistant researchers is chaired by the vice dean of the university for graduate studies and scientific research and issued by its establishment and its members a decision of the University Council on the recommendation of the Director of the University and the committee submits its recommendations to the Council."

Committee Tasks:

Based on point 3 of the regulations list of the affairs of Saudi faculty members in universities, the committee's tasks are:

1. Propose a policy for selecting assistants, lecturers, language teachers and assistant researchers and distributing them to departments and colleges.

2. Give an opinion on the recommendations issued by the college boards on hiring of assistants, lecturers, language teachers and assistant researchers in accordance with the following criteria:

• The number of Saudi faculty members and their percentage of the total number of faculty members in the department and their exact specialties, and their teaching burdens.

• Number of lecturers, assistants, language teachers and assistant researchers in the department.

• Number of scholarships from the department, their exact specialties, and the expected dates of their return.

3. Propose the distribution of assistants, lecturers, language teachers and assistant researchers as needed by current and future departments.

4. Recommending the promotion of the teaching assistant to lecturer.

5. Recommend a change or correction of specialization.
