This course is designed to introduce students to the genre of short story with its different facets and distinct features. It provides a critical framework for the understanding and analysis of short fiction, and introduces students to key authors and themes of the form. Students will be introduced to a wide range of short stories and will be asked to determine the categories they belong to. Likewise, this selection is designed to introduce students to the theoretical aspect of the short story, to guide them toward an appreciation of it as a literary form.

Students will be introduced to a wide range of short stories and will be asked to determine the categories they belong to. Likewise, this selection is designed to introduce students to the theoretical aspect of the short story, to guide them toward an appreciation of it as a literary form.

This course lays a foundation for a range of academic and critical thinking skills required for more advanced courses in the program. Basically, the course introduces students to key vocabulary preparing them for a variety of reading passages and engaging them in a synthesis of before, while and after-reading skills. Furthermore, the course involves students in collaboration activities which require an understanding of different opinions to prepare them for real-life social and academic situations. The whole learning process is intended to improve students’ academic reading, receptive language and reading and analytical skills as well as critical thinking and collaboration skills.

This is a practical course without a final examination. The course is designed to present students with a theoretical and practical experience of theatre production and the components from this process that marks theatre as industry, not just as an art form. Students will be guided through theatre terminology of theatre- making and provide them with hands on experience where these terminologies, concepts and components are realized. In addition, students will have a number of opportunities to enhance their independent thinking and initiative, collaborative skills, and ability to invent and develop their own show in an articulate and organized manner within the construction of the course performance.
