This course is intended to help students gain fundamental and comprehensive understanding of:  hardware architectures of sensor devices, MAC protocols for saving power (SMAC, TRAMA), routing protocols including: data centric, hierarchical, energy efficient and geographical routing protocols, synchronization methods for wireless sensor networks, physical and MAC layers of IEEE 802.15.4, Matlab for studying both the networking aspects and the distributed computing aspects of sensor networks

This course introduces computer networks and defines their criteria and structures. It introduces four different network topologies and describe the core protocols and layers. It also introduces the Internet, the largest internet in the world. The concept of switching is also introduced to show how small networks can be combined to create larger ones.
