This course introduces students to labor economics that concerns with the organization and operation of labor markets. Some of the questions that are discussed in the course include: Why do people work? Why are different people willing to work the same job at different wages? What factors determine how much labor a firm employ? How does the interaction of people willing to work and firms wanting to hire workers determine the distribution of wages observed in the economy? Why is there unemployment? Can unemployment be good?
The concepts of the labor market and factors affecting the market particularly in Saudi Arabia are discussed. The course will develop students’ ability to link the labor market to other economic variables and to enhance their awareness of the concepts of wage and labor policies and their economic consequences.
