The course provides an overview of banking and financial system in the economy, including the history and functions of money, financial institutions and markets, central banking, and the conduct of monetary policy. This course explains central bank policies by developing an understanding of their purpose, organization, function, and operations and introduces several recent developments in domestic and international banking and the most importantly banking risks and their management. The course aims to provide the student with an introduction to the role of money, financial markets, financial institutions, and monetary policy in the economy, thus providing a solid foundation for further study or employment in the financial services industry.

This course provides an insight on developing participants’ practical knowledge and skill sets and understanding the financial markets, participants and products, and their interrelations. The topics covered include the role and structure of financial markets, the term structure of interest rates, investors investment decisions based on valuation criteria, among other topics.
