The student Ahad Almutiari from the College of Computer and Information Sciences, Information Systems, at Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University recently won the second place in Riyadh's Hackathon, the challenge of NASA's global space applications. The challenge is to create global teams of different disciplines, including technicians, scientists, designers, artists, teachers, entrepreneurs, developers and students, all working to design innovative, open-source solutions to global challenges. One of the objectives of this global competition is to cooperate in solving the problems facing the world to produce open source solutions to develop the space exploration missions and improving life on Earth. The Safe Haven project, the winner project, aims to help refugees and homeless around the world living in organized and unorganized camps. The application analyzes the environmental and air conditions surrounding camps to identify and share their needs with volunteers and charities, ensuring accessibility and provision. Al-Mutairi said, "This participation was a necessary step to share experiences and knowledge with our technical colleagues." She added that everyone interested in technology should engage in such challenges and technical competitions to gain a great deal of knowledge, skill and experience. She concluded by saying that creativity is born from within and everyone is capable of overcoming difficulties, but he has to trust his abilities and possibilities given by Allah. On this occasion, the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information, Dr. Ohoud Bint Abdullah Al-Faris, thanked the organizing and supporting institutions. She also thanked the faculty staff for the efforts they provided and to support and encourage students to face such challenges.
