Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University has achieved 47 ranking advancement in comparison with its rank in the last year’s “UI Green Metric 2019” rankings respecting the measurement of development of environmentally friendly infrastructure through (6) indicators. As the university ranked 138 out of 780 universities worldwide; and the second rank at the local level, while the six indicators are based on a specific classification methodology, i.e. Infrastructure (SI), Energy, Climate Change (ES), Waste (WS), Water (WR), Transport (TR), and Education (ED).
This global university ranking launched by University of Indonesia in 2010 is a non-profit classification, which represents the first classification to measure the sustainable efforts of university campus and is considered as a tool to address the sustainability challenges faced by our world to make university facilities environmentally friendly. As well as reducing the inevitable negative environmental effects; the classification also pays due concern to evaluate the efforts made in field of education for sustainable development and relative research papers.
In this regard, the university Vice-Rector for Development and Quality, Dr. Huda bint Omar Al-Wehaibi, explained that this classification enhances sustainability in education, makes university facilities environmentally friendly. As well as contributing to social change led by the universities with regard to sustainability goals, and forming a tool for self-evaluation in sustainability of campus of educational institutions and higher education around the world, in addition to informing governments, international and local environmental agencies and the community about campus sustainability program.
As for the benefits that the university is going to achieve from such ranking, Al-Wehaibi explained that universities can participate in sustainability scale and work on developing their efforts to enhance awareness inside and outside the university regarding significance of sustainability issues and social change.
It is worth noting that University Vice-Rectorate for Development and Quality at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University is working to develop efficiency of university’s performance. As well as achieving its goals for developing the academic and administrative performance through creating a university organizational environment commensurate with quality requirements, local and international academic accreditation, in addition to disseminating culture of quality and application of quality assurance standards whether at level of the university as an institution or at all levels of its academic programs.
