Under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Sheikh, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University inaugurated, this Tuesday, the International Conference for Computerization with the attendance of H.E the Rector of the University, Prof. Einas bint Suleiman Al-Eisa, and a number of leaders and specialists from faculty members and students at the university's conference center. The conference includes three main sessions starting from today until Thursday, 15th Rabi` Al-Thani, and the workshops will discuss 50 topics diversified in the course of data science, cybersecurity, computer networks, the Internet of things and IT applications.
The opening ceremony of the conference started with a speech by the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh, delivered on his behalf by the University Rector Prof. Einas bint Suleiman Al-Eisa, in which he stated that achieving the vision of wise leadership in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is based on investment in human capital, which maintains a high value in education management and knowledge industry and production of competence in the outputs of educational institutions.
Al-Eisa added, “Today we meet to share one dream, which is to reach through this important international conference on computing a global icon in its findings and outputs. We are here today to share knowledge to put a title for the future map, the technical history records for us that something happened in December of 2019 at Princess Nourah University, which was able to change the way the collective thinking of the world towards "computerization". As well as paving new ways in this field that help understand problems and solve them through "Algorithm" methods, which are now The language everyone should understand and speak.
This was followed by a speech by the Dean of College of Computer and Information Sciences, Dr. Hanan bint Abdullah bin Monqash, during which she indicated that the conference represents a unique opportunity and a distinct platform to present the latest scientific research, international experiences and developments in computerization sciences and information technology. It came in line with modern national and international trends and contributed to achieving the hopes and aspirations compatible with the digital transformation programs and the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which included development goals for developing human capital, establishing knowledge economy, promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhancing women's participation in the labor market.
Then, the first session of the conference began under the title: (Forces of Change in the Digital Age), the speaker was Dr. Kamal Yousef Al-Toumi, a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, Co-director of the Center for Complex Engineering Systems in King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Director of the Ibn Khaldoun Fellowship for Saudi Women.
It was followed by a session entitled (Challenges and Solutions of Cyber Security in the Hyper-Connected 5G IoT Environmental System) for the Founder and Chairman of the International Foundation for Cyber Studies and Research, Professor Muhammad Khurram Khan.
Her Excellency the Rector of the University inaugurated the accompanying exhibition, which includes a number of companies specialized in computing are (Wipro, SHARP Middle East, Advanced Electronics Company Limited, Tasheel, Naseej - Arabian Advanced Systems, Saudi Business Machines, DellEMC, Microsoft, Unified Integration Corporation for Communications and Information Technology, Oracle , OrbitRoad, IT platform, Future Cities For Engineering Consultants).
On the sidelines of the conference, the university signed a cooperation agreement with Huawei in order to develop a joint program that aims at developing talents in relation to information and communication technology. In addition to developing training programs to transfer information and communication technology to the faculty members and students of the university through accredited Huawei Academy programs, and to develop a training for trainers program and establishment of Huawei laboratory in the university.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the university by Vice-Rector of Educational Affairs, Dr. Nawal bint Mohamed Al-Rasheed, and signed on behalf of Huawei, by the Vice-Director of Human Resources at Huawei, Mr. Faisal Al-Otaibi.
It is worth noting that the conference will complete its sessions on Wednesday and Thursday with a session entitled (Achieving the Edge of Markets) for the speaker, Dean of the International College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and Professor of Performance Engineering at Cardiff University, Professor Omar Rana. In addition to another session entitled (Rethinking Education for the Future and Work in the Future), by Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Dr. Stephanie August.
The conference concludes its sessions with a session entitled (Big Data Simulation and Analyses for Directing High-Precision Visualization and Decision Making), by Associate Professor and Research Fellow and Head of Networks at the Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology at the Ibn Sina Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research, Malaysia University of Technology, Dr. Norma Elias.
