The College of Computer and Information Sciences at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University achieved second place in the “Inter-College Environmental Public Speaking Competition” in its 25th edition, organized by the Emirates Environmental Group in Dubai. The college earned this recognition through the participation of a group of its students who presented an innovative environmental initiative titled “Basir”, under the theme “Sustainable Thinking: How AI Redefines Environmental Solutions?”, showcasing the integration of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things to provide effective waste segregation solutions. Their creative presentation highlighted the issue of pollution and methods to reduce it, while enhancing their skills in public speaking, rhetoric, and scientific communication
Dr. Manal Al-Ouhali, Dean of the College of Computer and Information Sciences, emphasized that the students’ participation in such regional competitions reflects the college’s continued commitment to empowering its students and strengthening their presence in platforms of creativity and innovation, demonstrating the college’s educational mission and its support for their journey toward excellence locally and internationally.
The competition topics for this year focused on four main themes: two interlinked crises — climate change and biodiversity and ways to combat them; urbanization versus well-being and the role of sustainable cities in public health sustainable thinking and the impact of artificial intelligence on environmental solutions; and the environmental and economic footprint of cosmetics and the fashion industry.
The participation of the College of Computer and Information Sciences in the “Inter-College Environmental Public Speaking Competition” comes as part of the college’s efforts to contribute to the objectives of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University’s 2025 strategic plan, by promoting academic and research excellence, encouraging students to participate in international events, reinforcing women’s leadership in the development process, and empowering their presence in regional and global arenas
