The Institute of Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, in collaboration with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, hosted the “Hamzah Academic” Arabic Proficiency Test for non-native speakers on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with participation from institute members at the university. The test aims to strengthen students’ proficiency in Arabic and establish an internationally recognized measurement standard for Arabic language competencies among non-native learners, contributing to enhancing the status of the Arabic language locally, regionally, and globally. The “Hamzah Academic” test, developed by the King Salman Global Academy, was designed based on global experiences in language proficiency assessment while considering the unique features of the Arabic language. It evaluates four key skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking, and writing. Hosting the test comes as part of the existing MoU between the university and the Academy, which aims to strengthen strategic partnership, activate collaboration in related fields, and exchange expertise and resources to serve shared objectives. The test is built upon the highest international standards in linguistic measurement, following the CEFR framework, and relies on reference comparisons and survey studies of international exams to determine precise indicators and standards for language proficiency. It targets universities, Arabic teaching institutes and centers, Arabic teachers and learners, as well as employers requiring proficiency assessments. This initiative contributes to the Institute’s role in supporting the university’s Strategic Plan 2025, aiming to lead knowledge and societal impact and enrich the educational experience.
