The “Mareen” Project from the AI in Healthcare Research Chair at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University won first place in the “Best Scientific Paper” category during its participation in the 24th International Conference on Intelligent Software Methodologies, Tools, and Techniques (SOMET 2025), held in Japan. The competition featured nearly 500 scientific papers on artificial intelligence and software technologies in health, education, and engineering. The project, developed by several students from the Artificial Intelligence Program at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, addresses key objectives, including helping children receive rehabilitative therapy using AI, automatically determining appropriate exercises based on performance for more effective treatment, and analyzing performance using computer vision techniques. The project also includes interactive gamified elements and auto-generated reports to assist specialists in follow-up. Its technologies are designed to be effective and easy to use at home or in clinics. The award criteria included scientific methodology quality, innovation, applied impact, and evaluation by the international judging panel. The SOMET conference is held annually in different countries and brings together researchers and practitioners to present the latest studies and applications in AI and software technology. The “Mareen” project aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 goals in supporting digital transformation in healthcare and reflects the university’s commitment to advancing academic and research excellence, fostering a supportive environment for scientific research and innovation, and strengthening local and global community engagement.
