King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz University Hospital at Princess Nourah University continues to advance environmental sustainability in the healthcare sector by adopting green building practices that enhance patient outcomes, improve quality of life, and reduce medical facility environmental footprints. As one of the first university hospitals in Saudi Arabia to receive the LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and classification as an environmentally friendly facility, the hospital integrates sustainable operations through smart infrastructure founded on natural lighting, low-emission materials, therapeutic green spaces, and advanced environmental control systems. It employs a centralized Building Management System (BMS) to regulate lighting and cooling based on occupancy and time, applies LEED-aligned design principles, uses low-emissivity glass and energy-efficient ventilation systems, and optimizes thermal regulation to reduce energy loads. These efforts advance PNU’s 2025 strategic plan by strengthening the integration of sustainable healthcare, innovation, operational efficiency, and medical excellence, positioning the hospital as a leading model in global sustainable healthcare.
