King Abdullah University Hospital at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University recorded significant achievements during the past academic year, reflecting its commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery, medical education, and research innovation. The hospital expanded its operational capacity, with medical laboratory tests surpassing 1.8 million by the end of 2024, and an increase in bed capacity from 170 in 2023 to 225 in 2024, with plans to reach 272 beds by the end of 2025. Outpatient clinics were restructured to expand service capacity, and Phase II of the Dental Clinics was launched with several new specialties, including Central Sterilization, Intern and Residency Clinics, and specialized dental services. Operational excellence initiatives included improving patient flow, optimizing facility utilization, enhancing digital systems, and implementing the “Awlawiya” priority-care initiative to improve access for target groups. The hospital launched a new mobile application, activated WhatsApp services, and automated callback systems to improve patient communication. In education and training, the Dermatology Residency Program received accreditation from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, and six additional programs were reaccredited: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Diagnostic Radiology, and Periodontics. Clinical training seats increased significantly, with 491 internship placements and 3,309 clinical-course training seats allocated for health-science students. Executive Director Dr. Mohammed Al-Harbi expressed pride in the hospital’s achievements, noting that expanded capacity, advanced medical technologies, improved patient experience, and educational and research accreditations demonstrate the hospital’s role in delivering safe, integrated, high-quality care that supports education and scientific advancement. The hospital’s staff contributed to research excellence by publishing 13 peer-reviewed studies and securing several national and international accreditations, including CBAHI accreditation, AABB accreditation for blood banks, CAP accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, and LEED green-building certification. Since its official opening in 2017, the hospital has served as an integrated model of healthcare, medical education, and research in alignment with Vision 2030’s goals for an advanced and sustainable health sector.
