The Department of Physics was established as one of the departments of the College of Science at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in the year 1428 AH. It was initially one of the basic science departments in the College of Education, which was founded in 1390 AH. The department has developed a study plan for teaching a range of theoretical and applied courses and training on necessary skills according to a well-thought-out plan and quality standards. The department offers two bachelor's degree programs: one in Physics and the other in Medical Physics. Additionally, the department provides a Master's program in Energy and Innovation in partnership with Swansea University. These programs aim to prepare scientific and professional personnel who can contribute to supplying the job market with qualified graduates to achieve Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and serve the community in various fields. Each year, the department admits about 100 new students and has an average of about 600 students. Approximately 40 faculty members in all areas of experimental, theoretical, and medical physics supervise their education. The department also includes a number of educational personnel such as teaching assistants, lecturers, and technical staff to operate the general and specialized laboratories that serve, in addition to the department's students, programs from outside the department in engineering and health specializations.
